Doctor Tel-Oren

Doctor Tel-Oren (“Dr. T”), MD (Europe), DC, LN, DACBN, DABOM, CCN, FABDA, DABCT(c), is a holistic medical doctor, nutrition scientist, and university professor who educates doctors and the public about nutritional and environmental medicine, functional medicine (science-based, holistic & integrative approach to disease prevention, diagnosis and therapy), longevity research (“anti-aging”) medicine, and health enhancement via lifestyle and dietary modification.

Doctor T, a Medical Doctor trained in Europe and the USA, is board-certified with the American Board of Oxidative Medicine and the American Clinical Board of Nutrition, and a diplomate candidate with the American Board of Chelation Therapy. He is a Certified Clinical Nutritionist and a professor with the Clinical Nutrition Certification Board of the International and American Association of Clinical Nutritionists, a doctor of chiropractic (trained and licensed in the USA), a Licensed Nutritionist (Minnesota), a Fellow of the American Board of Disability Analysts, and member of the ACA Council on Nutrition. He is President Emeritus of the University of Natural Medicine (Santa Fe, New Mexico), where he is Dean of Medical Sciences and Professor of functional, nutritional, and clinical medicine. Additionally, he is a Certified Industrial Injury Prevention Consultant.

Doctor T is founder and president of Integrated Healthcare Clinics, a clinical education facility that was perhaps the first multi-disciplinary, multi-practitioner healthcare clinic integrating holistic and allopathic medical services under one roof. He is also founder and president of the Functional and Dental Health (FDH) Foundation (with chapters locally and internationally) and of Ecopolitan (Minneapolis, Minnesota),  the first sustainable, ecologically and environmentally-sound restaurant offering 100% organic, vegan, unprocessed, unheated cuisine and wine/juice/ oxygen/infrared bar, combined with an "eco-shop" (natural, health-oriented, non-toxic home and body goods and packaged or bulk organic food items) and an educational resource center. This non-profit gourmet Minneapolis restaurant & eco-shop serves as a model for optimal nutrition and for the principles of sustainability. He sees patients at Ecopolitan a few days each month, focusing on releasing them rapidly from active care (into independent self-care, utilizing the free lectures and other resources he provides at Ecopolitan), to accommodate new patients. He sees many other patients nationally and internationally on a regular basis, during his travels or via phone consultations. In addition to non-surgically removing various skin growths from thousands of patients worldwide, he practices wilderness medicine, seeing patients in remote areas (especially Nepal) as a volunteer.

Doctor T’s other non-profit activities include:

  • Organizing and guiding humanitarian Community Eco-Tourism Treks in Nepal;
  • Leading ecological health and education retreats in Wisconsin, in Thailand, and in Nepal, and founding the first Eco-Spas and Eco-Hostel in the USA;
  • Medically leading and guiding CCODER Nepal’s Community Health Plan (www.ccoder.org), which benefits over 100,000 Nepali people;
  • Serving on Boards of non-profit & cooperative organizations;
  • Appearing on live radio and TV shows;
  • Lecturing internationally on medical, environmental, and nutritional topics to doctors, nurses, and lay people.
Additionally, Doctor T has been consulting for various commercial, military, government, and community organizations, and is currently writing books and producing CD’s of his popular ‘Ask Dr. T’TM lecture topics at Ecoplitan. He is also introducing cutting-edge health-related ventures in the USA and other countries, utilizing new technologies that empower people to prevent and reverse disease as well as providing career opportunities for those interested in becoming Certified Health Coaches.

Previously, Doctor T served 5 years in military intelligence; obtained his Bachelor of Music (highest honors); completed professional requirements for a Master in Conducting; performed with both professional and amateur vocal and instrumental groups on various instruments on three continents; and taught many instruments and music theory plus other topics in schools and universities. He has owned, managed or co-managed real estate properties and/or businesses in Israel, Russia, Thailand, Mexico, Nepal, and the USA.

Doctor T received his MD degree from the prestigious Russian State Medical University (3rd prize winner of the UNESCO competition of medical schools, ahead of famous universities such as Oxford and Cambridge) and completed clinical rotations at several hospitals and clinics in the USA in addition to dozens of University hospitals and specialty training (e.g. forensic pathology) in Moscow . Thus, he has medical training that most MDs educated in the USA do not have. He is licensed to practice medicine in most European and Asian countries. Under his professional US licenses (as a Doctor of Chiropractic and as a Licensed Nutritionist), he can practice every aspect of holistic and laboratory medicine he deems effective, so that a US license to practice as an MD is not essential for his care of patients or his consulting, research, writing, and educational activities. Moreover, his freedom to practice nutritional, environmental, and functional medicine is not impaired under his two Professional Licensing Boards.

Doctor T’s approach to patient care relies on science-based education and advanced functional laboratory tests (assessing the potential causes and process of disease) needed to reverse or prevent disease progression, to predict individual susceptibility to various disorders, and to enhance productive longevity. This leads to individualized nutritional and functional therapy. The patient must take responsibility for her own health, and therefore becomes less dependent on doctors (holistic or allopathic) except for occasional lab or clinical monitoring. This type of care is more effective and less costly or risky. Doctor T works with fatigue, fibromyalgia, cancer, viral/bacterial/yeast/parasite infections (herpes, lyme, Candida), cardiovascular illnesses, diabetes, OBGYN issues, Detoxification, chronic inflammatory and  metabolic conditions, depression/anxiety, cognitive dysfunction (loss of memory, focus, etc.), risks from genetic variations, developmental spectrum (ADD/ADHD/PDD/Autism) & auto-immune (lupus, scleroderma, rheumatoid arthritis, etc.) disorders, weight gain, chemical sensitivities, food/environmental allergies, gastrointestinal/digestive problems, osteoporosis, ear & throat infections, sinusitis, childhood disease, neurodegenerative diseases (MS, dementia, Parkinson, etc.), dermatitis /eczema, acne, moles (natural, pain-free, non-surgical, non-scarring removal of most skin growths), and other internal and external health challenges. He also works with longevity medicine patients (natural, healthy “anti-aging”), using dietary and nutritional technologies that are based on cutting-edge laboratory tests.

Those interested in his approach should call Doctor T’s assistant, Ecopolitan Director Joe Noreen, at 612-870-2974.

Among the many laboratory tests Doctor T offers, here are some of the most popular functional tests:

  1. Comprehensive Digestive, Metabolic, and Microbiological Stool Analysis – important for anyone with chronic symptoms. Degenerative, digestive, & nutritional conditions are frequently associated with gastro-intestinal tract dysfunction, which affects every system in the body. This tests analyzes 30+ parameters, including fungal/yeast/bacterial overgrowth with culture for effective natural or allopathic therapy; multiple bacterial/ecological imbalances & parasites; pH & pancreatic enzymes function; fat, protein, & carb digestion; dyspepsia, putrefaction, and mal-absorption; bile & immune antibody production; and inflammation markers. Add-on: H. pylori; anti-gliadin Antibody (gluten sensitivity); Salmonella & 3 other toxic organisms; C. Difficile; hemolytic E.coli & its toxin.
  2. The ALCAT Diagnostic System for immune reactions/sensitivities to foods, molds, chemicals, etc. - scientific studies implicate food and environmental sensitivities as important factors in a large variety of chronic, degenerative, and developmental disorders. This blood test is not limited to antibody-mediated reactions; it reveals hidden and delayed reactions involving a broad spectrum of immune responses, leading to inflammation, joint & abdomen pain, mood and cognitive disorders, H2O retention, & weight gain.
  3. Functional Genomic Tests - a variety of genetic panels designed to reveal frequently-occurring genetic tendencies towards common illnesses, which can be prevented with individually tailored nutritional and environmental intervention based on the test findings. This can potentially enhance health and extend life significantly, since genetic factors are crucial to longevity yet they are often ignored. Currently, four such panels are available: Detoxigenomics, which reveals weaknesses in metabolism of various environmental, nutritional, and artificial (drugs) toxins as well as internally produced toxins such as hormones and neurotransmitters; Cardiogenomics, which exposes genetic tendencies towards lipid abnormalities, hypertension, atherosclerosis, homocysteine elevation (a major factor in the development of heart disease, related to genetic inability to convert folic acid into its active form), and others;  Immuneogenomics, which shows tendencies towards inflammation, auto-immune disease, infections, and immune system imbalance; and Osteogenomics, which displays genetic factors increasing osteoporosis risk.
  4. Organic Acid Testing (OAT) - this comprehensive urine test is very useful with children (and adults) who suffer from learning and developmental disorders (e.g. ADD, ADHD, Autism) and metabolic disorders (e.g. chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia). It reveals genetic and metabolic tendencies, gut imbalance and infection, toxicity, nutritional deficiencies, and much more.
  5. AMAS (Anti-Malignin Antibody in Serum) - a blood test for early detection of cancer. Extremely accurate, it is ideal for anyone with family or personal cancer history, carcinogenic exposure, high cancer risk, inconclusive cancer diagnosis, undiagnosed tumors/growths, or for screening, early detection, and prevention. 6. M2PK - a simple, highly accurate, inexpensive stool test for early detection of specifically colon cancer and rectal cancer, which renders the uncomfortable, potentially risky, and toxic (sedatives) colonoscopy screenings almost completely obsolete!
  7. Heavy Metal Tests in Urine (with or without provocation), stool (especially in babies and small children), Red Blood Cells (when the patient’s mineral status is desired), and/or Hair specimens - identifying exposure (usually from dental amalgam, contaminated seafood, or occupational activity) and tissue storage of mercury, lead, cadmium, arsenic, and other toxic metals that are associated with chronic or acute disease (especially neurological, immunological, and metabolic syndromes, such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, ALS, multiple sclerosis, chronic fatigue, chemical sensitivities, allergies, and various auto-immune disease).
  8. Dental Materials Reactivity – this blood test evaluates immune compatibility with over 4000 oral restoration materials prior to dental treatment. Some dental materials, even if not known as strong toxins, may cause significant damage to sensitive individuals.
  9. Salivary Hormone tests – analyzing adrenal stress and sex hormones in the saliva offers many advantages over conventional tests. DHEA and cortisol hormone levels are important immune markers, and indicate the capacity of the body to handle various stress factors. Estrogen and progesterone levels reveal sex organ function and shed light on menstrual cycle disorders.
  10. Various tests for nutritional deficiencies, needed to identify hidden or underlying causes of chronic disorders and to prevent disease formation, as well as increase productivity & longevity.
  11. Osteoporosis Risk Evaluation via urinary tests, assessing the actual rate of bone loss over time.
  12. Pathology-Oriented, discounted Specialty Tests , such as Ferritin Test for accurate iron storage assessment (crucial for those at risk of iron overload, a very common condition that may have devastating effects); accurate vitamin D status test (over 90% of Americans may be functionally deficient in this very important hormone-vitamin); Complete Thyroid Panel (often missing in “routine physicals”), with optional Free T-3 (the active thyroid hormone), T4, and Reverse T3; CRP (C-Reactive Protein),Lyme, homocysteine, and fibrinogen (crucial cardiovascular markers usually ignored in “check-ups”); various cancer tumor markers (CEA, HCG, AFP, CA-125, CA-27/29, PSA); glucose & Insulin; complete blood chemistry (includes electrolytes, important enzymes, liver, kidney, and complete thyroid function tests, blood proteins and lipid spectrum plus ratios, urinalysis, and complete blood count with differential and platelets);  Viral tests (EBV, CMV, Hepatitis, herpes);  and many others.
